When you start planning your wedding, there is a good chance that your celebration will have symbolic meanings throughout the day. A classic symbolic element to a ceremony is the exchanging of the wedding rings, which symbolize the eternal commitment to your significant other. Certain symbols find their way into the special day without much effort at all. There are many different themes that you can honor at your wedding, and we have gathered some fun ideas to incorporate into your special day with us at the Canoe Club Ballroom.
Doors Consider having doors as a backdrop to your ceremony as well as a backdrop to your sweetheart table at your recpetion. Doors are passageways, which mean they represent transition, just like the two of you becoming a married couple.
Cherry Blossoms We have seen this many times here at the Canoe Club Ballroom. Cherry Blossoms blooms in the spring, and are seen as a sign of renewal. This would be a perfect theme for a spring time!
Butterflies The caterpillars metamorphosis into a beautiful butterfly is the perfect symbol for rebirth, you can incorporate them into your special day very easily with favors, décor, even display them on your wedding program.
Daffodils Perfect for early spring celebrations, these lovely early blooming flowers are a great representation of new beginnings. Use these blooms in your centerpieces, bouquets and boutonnières.

Who says that that your reception should be the only fun part of your special day! We think you should personalize your ceremony just as much your reception, and make it exciting and meaningful! Now, when you start thinking about your big day, you’ll want to visualize how your friends and family will remember your big day, and think “Wow! That was so Katie & Josh”! We have gathered some fun ideas to make your ceremony a one to remember! First, you may want to consider making your program very unique and you! Pick out your favorite fonts and put fun facts about one another, even some history of how you two met and your journey together. Using an engagement photo on your programs is another wonderful way to make it personal. Another wonderful way to make it personal is to have your little ring bearer carry your rings in something unique, like personalized pillow or a memento box. For your sweet little flower girl, have her carry your favorite flower! If you are not having a religious ceremony, have someone from your family like an uncle or aunt, or a close friend officiate your ceremony for you! A really fun idea for your exit would be to place party store noisemakers on the ceremony seats, so when you the two of you exit, your guests can jam out!

Cold weather weddings are beautiful, but getting dressed for the occasion can be tricky. You don’t want to underdress in fear of catching a cold. Overdressing may make you look like a giant marshmallow, and you don’t want that! We have come up with some great ideas on how to stay warm and stylish on your wedding day here at the Canoe Club Ballroom.
Let’s start with the obvious: wear layers! With the temps dropping over the winter months, layering is crucial to stay warm going from indoor to outdoor locations. We suggest wearing leggings, tights, or shapeware that will keep you warm under your gown.
You’ll want to upgrade your accessories for the chilly weather as well. If you are a classic bride, why not choose some bold accessories for your special. Glitter heels, feathers and pops of color will add touch of glamour to your look. If you are want something a bit more dramatic, a pair of leather gloves and a wide brimmed hat will be very chic!
High necklines are not just in style, but they will keep you warm too! Have fun covering up, with a fur coat, or even better a faux fur stole! Some wrap alternatives you can choose from are a wool scarf or pashmina, or even an alpaca wrap that will add texture to your bridal look.

While Saturday evenings are the most popular time to hold a wedding reception. There are no rules saying that you can’t host one earlier in the day. Saturday daytime weddings are becoming more and more popular. If you choose to host a daytime wedding, not only can you start the celebration earlier, you have the potential to save a good amount of money doing so. Here are some thoughts we have when you are considering a daytime wedding!
The biggest difference in having a daytime wedding is obviously the timing of the event. Typically, it can take a full day to get ready for an evening wedding, but with a morning wedding ceremony, you will have an early start. You want to give yourself at least two hours for your hair and makeup, keep in mind, this time does not include your bridesmaids getting ready. When it comes to the formality of the celebration, you can make it as formal or informal as you’d like. The groom can wear a nice navy or grey suit, and as for the bride, you can wear a beautiful A-line silhouette which would be perfect for the daytime event.

Today’s topic will be all about the groom’s attire! We can honestly say we have seen it all over the past four decades. We love the idea of the classic black tux, it’s dapper as well as timeless. We also love when we see a fresh shake up too! If you’re looking to add a little personal style to your grooms wedding day attire, we have gathered some inspiration for your soon to be hubby!
If he wants something a little different, but still wants to play it safe, we suggest a suit in a nice neutral. Beige or brown tones, mixed separates in blue hues, or a tux in a shade of grey are all wonderful choices. If he’s looking for a subtle punch, step up his game by opting for an ensemble that plays with both texture, and prints.
If the style of your wedding allows, he can skip the formal route. Forget the coat all together -try a vest, or even suspenders they look just as good. The key to creating a style for your groom is let his true personality shine on your wedding day, and of course that will go with your overall theme and venue!

Happy New Year, and congratulations to all of happy couples who will be getting married in the year to come! So, now that you're engaged, and you’ve told all of your loved ones, it’s now time for the celebrations to start! First up is the engagement party. Luckily when planning an engagement party, you and your significant other can help with the planning process without any raised eyebrows. Traditionally the bride and groom’s parents host the engagement party, but that’s not a hard and fast rule, anyone can throw you an engagement party, with that being said, the whoever does host should always check with the parents of the bride. Next you will need to pick a date, typically they are shortly after you are engaged, but if you are having a longer engagement, or if you have to travel home for the party, having a delay is totally fine. When choosing who will be invited to you’re party, whoever makes the list to the engagement party must be invited to your wedding. If you are unsure how many guests you will be inviting to your wedding, then you might want to have a more intimate engagement party with close friends and family. Finally, when you choose the venue for this special occasion, it can be as formal or informal as you want. A party at your parents’ home or your BBF’s back yard is great for an informal affair.

Earthy Details This year’s weddings were packed with tons of natural décor like greenery, garland, and wood stumps. We love how our brides have incorporated this fantastic trend!
Pets Oh, how we love when a pup comes along to a wedding ceremony! We had a few puppies join in on the celebrations of our happy couples. Friends of the family usually take care of the beloved pup while the two tie the knot, then they join in on the photos.

We are always looking for new ideas for the brides & grooms if and when they they are in need of any advice for their reception décor. We have picked a few of the trends that we think will look great and will work well at at the Canoe Club Ballroom!
Moody Florals In recent years we have seen beautiful lush, soft flowers with lots of greenery. This year we are absolutely thrilled to see the wave of moody blooms coming into play! A huge trend for 2018 is dark, detailed, textured floral arrangements! The more dramatic the better! Hues that are projected are in the purple family, including lilac, lavender, mauve, and wine!
Colored Candles This trend has gained major popularity in last six to eight months we have noticed. Who doesn’t love a beautiful candle centerpiece? What better way to exude vintage romance to your big day than colored candles? Instead of the standard ivory or white candle, couples are adding a splash of color to their tablesscape, or scattered throughout the venue to add an unexpected pop of color!
Textured Linens With the fashion industry leading the way, brides are choosing textured linens for their big day. We love the idea of a white or ivory linen with a really cool overlay with a laser cut details, or one with a little sparkle! Texture is going to be huge in the upcoming year!
Smaller Bridal Parties This has been an up and coming trend for the past few years, we don't see many bridal partires in the double digits anymore. Brides are choosing smaller parties that include one to three bridesmaids.
