While Saturday evenings are the most popular time to hold a wedding reception. There are no rules saying that you can’t host one earlier in the day. Saturday daytime weddings are becoming more and more popular. If you choose to host a daytime wedding, not only can you start the celebration earlier, you have the potential to save a good amount of money doing so. Here are some thoughts we have when you are considering a daytime wedding!

The biggest difference in having a daytime wedding is obviously the timing of the event. Typically, it can take a full day to get ready for an evening wedding, but with a morning wedding ceremony, you will have an early start. You want to give yourself at least two hours for your hair and makeup, keep in mind, this time does not include your bridesmaids getting ready. When it comes to the formality of the celebration, you can make it as formal or informal as you’d like. The groom can wear a nice navy or grey suit, and as for the bride, you can wear a   beautiful A-line silhouette which would be perfect for the daytime event.
Once the wedding reception is over, there are no rules that say you must continue to entertain your guests. However, as a nice gesture you can inform your guests of local activities, restaurants and bars that they will can enjoy on their own.
As for the newlyweds, the sky’s the limit!  Set up a spa treatment at a local hotel, take a nap in your honeymoon suite. Then go out for a delicious dinner with your new spouse!

Today’s topic will be all about the groom’s attire! We can honestly say we have seen it all over the past four decades. We love the idea of the classic black tux, it’s dapper as well as timeless. We also love when we see a fresh shake up too! If you’re looking to add a little personal style to your grooms wedding day attire, we have gathered some inspiration for your soon to be hubby!

If he wants something a little different, but still wants to play it safe, we suggest a suit in a nice neutral. Beige or brown tones, mixed separates in blue hues, or a tux in a shade of grey are all wonderful choices. If he’s looking for a subtle punch, step up his game by opting for an ensemble that plays with both texture, and prints.

If the style of your wedding allows, he can skip the formal route. Forget the coat all together -try a vest, or even suspenders they look just as good. The key to creating a style for your groom is let his true personality shine on your wedding day, and of course that will go with your overall theme and venue!

Happy New Year, and congratulations to all of happy couples who will be getting married in the year to come! So, now that you're engaged, and you’ve told all of your loved ones, it’s now time for the celebrations to start! First up is the engagement party. Luckily when planning an engagement party, you and your significant other can help with the planning process without any raised eyebrows.

Traditionally the bride and groom’s parents host the engagement party, but that’s not a hard and fast rule, anyone can throw you an engagement party, with that being said, the whoever does host should always check with the parents of the bride. Next you will need to pick a date, typically they are shortly after you are engaged, but if you are having a longer engagement, or if you have to travel home for the party, having a delay is totally fine. When choosing who will be invited to you’re party, whoever makes the list to the engagement party must be invited to your wedding. If you are unsure how many guests you will be inviting to your wedding, then you might want to have a more intimate engagement party with close friends and family. Finally, when you choose the venue for this special occasion, it can be as formal or informal as you want. A party at your parents’ home or your BBF’s back yard is great for an informal affair.

As 2017 comes to a close, and a bright new year approaches us here at the Canoe Club Ballroom, we want to reflect back on how amazing this past year was! We are so fortunate for all of the wonderful couples, and their families who have become part of our story and family. We are forever grateful for all of them!

We have gathered up some of our favorite trends we have seen in the past year! We must say they have been pretty fabulous! We can’t wait to see what the future holds in the year to come!

Mix & Match

We love seeing bridesmaid’s dresses in silhouettes that reflects each individual maid. Having your bridesmaids choose different styles of dresses is a great idea, and it allow for more authentic and creative ways to show your bridesmaids personalities!

Earthy Details

This year’s weddings were packed with tons of natural décor like greenery, garland, and wood stumps. We love how our brides have incorporated this fantastic trend!

Pets

Oh, how we love when a pup comes along to a wedding ceremony! We had a few puppies join in on the celebrations of our happy couples. Friends of the family usually take care of the beloved pup while the two tie the knot, then they join in on the photos.

If you are planning your wedding for next year, you are in luck! 2018 trends will be contemporary, dramatic and unique. We are always looking for new ideas for the brides & grooms if and when they they are in need of any advice for their reception décor. We have picked a few of the trends that we think will look great and will work well at at the Canoe Club Ballroom!

Moody Florals

In recent years we have seen beautiful lush, soft flowers with lots of greenery. This year  we are absolutely thrilled to see the wave of moody blooms coming into play! A huge trend for 2018 is dark, detailed, textured floral arrangements! The more dramatic the better! Hues that are projected are in the purple family, including lilac, lavender, mauve, and wine!

Colored Candles

This trend has gained major popularity in last six to eight months we have noticed. Who doesn’t love a beautiful candle centerpiece? What better way to exude vintage romance to your big day than colored candles? Instead of the standard ivory or white candle, couples are adding a splash of color to their tablesscape, or scattered throughout the venue to add an unexpected pop of color!

Textured Linens

With the fashion industry leading the way, brides are choosing textured linens for their big day. We love the idea of a white or ivory linen with a really cool overlay with a laser cut details, or one with a little sparkle! Texture is going to be huge in the upcoming year!

Smaller Bridal Parties

This has been an up and coming trend for the past few years, we don't see many bridal partires in the double digits anymore. Brides are choosing smaller parties that include one to three bridesmaids.

Ultra Violet

As we come to the end of a beautiful 2017 season at the Canoe Club Ballroom, we are excited to see what the 2018 season brings! From décor, to color trends, to cakes, we just love it all!! If you are starting your planning process and are pondering color options, you may want to consider the wonderful new color for 2018 “Ultra Violet”. Every year Pantone chooses a color for the year to come.  Ultra Violet is a rich, gem-toned purple shade. Moody, dramatic and celestial all at once! You will start to see this luxe shade everywhere in 2018!

When planning your wedding, there are many ways to incorporate this deep purple into your wedding! Your wedding doesn’t have to have a purple palette to feature the shade. You can always add a pop to your bouquet or have one of your cake tiers wrapped in a deep purple fondant to showcase the modern look. Now, if this shade is too purple for you, then you can take inspiration from one of its sister shades!
